Brescia Women's Tennis Tabs First Victory
Brescia snapped a two-game losing streak with a nail-biting and come from behind, 4-3 victory over the Kentucky Wesleyan College Tuesday afternoon. The match marked Brescia's first victory.
Eleni Stravolemos and Deimante Krivickaite won 6-1 on court one. Despite the pair's efforts, Kentucky Wesleyan would rebound. The Panthers took court two, 6-3 before clinching the one-point advantage with a 6-3 result over Lauren Clements and Natalie Estes.
It looked as if Kentucky Wesleyan would run away with the match as the Panthers added to their team's point total, victories on courts two and seven in singles action. Krivickaite, put the Bearcats on the board with a straight set victory on court one 6-0,6-0, which was her first win as a Bearcat.
Playing in the third spot, senior Eleni Stravolemos defeated her opposition 6-1, 6-3 to put the Bearcats back within striking distance. Lauren Clements also responded by cruising to victory in her match 6-1, 6-2, in route to remaining undefeated on the season at 3-0. The freshman's efforts put Brescia up 3-2 with two matches remaining. Kentucky Wesleyan got another victory at the number 6 spot as Brielle Gaddis lost 6-2, 6-2. In the end Sarah Dunaway playing in her first collegiate match won in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 to give Brescia the 4-3 victory. "Our ladies fought hard and, in the end, it paid off with the first victory of the season", stated Coach Riley.
