Women Open Season at Rose-Hulman
The Lady Bearcats competed in their first indoor meet of the season, at the Rose-Hulman Engineer Invitational. Kassi Gilbert competed in the first indoor triple jump in school history jumping 8.59 meters. Kassi Gilbert also competed in long jump and had a distance of 3.94m. Freshman and former standout thrower at Castle High School, Mikayla Chinn, broke the school record while finishing 4th overall, in the shot put. Mikayla threw 10.63 meters and broke the previous school record held by Mackenzie Weyer set in 2015. Sophmore, Jordan Blemker, competed in her first collegiate meet and hit 8.05m on her third throw of the night. She was followed by freshman walk-on Brittany Lear (5.27m).
Freshman sprinter, Jaisha Shelton, competed in the 60m dash finishing in 9.59m and the 200m dash in 32.98 seconds.
There were three women that competed in the 1 mile run freshmen Madeline Jones (6:05.78), freshman Ashlie Carpenter (6:50.62), and junior Makenzie Jackson (7:00.94). Ashlie Carpenter also ran the 800m coming in at 3:06.52. Madeline Jones also ran the 3K finishing in 11:54.91.
The Lady Bearcats combined to score 11 points on the night. When Head Coach Luke Stoffel was asked to comment on the meet he said, "It's a solid start to the year, everyone knows where they're at now and has a benchmark to build off of. I am looking forward to seeing what PR's and school records get broke this year."
The Bearcats compete again Friday February 2nd at Depauw University.
