Lady Bearcats Place Fourth at OCU Trailblazer Invitational
The women's track & field team competed at the OCU Trailblazer Invitational on Saturday, February 6th, placing fourth out of 11.
"The women's team placing fourth at a meet that featured several conference teams is a good sign as we head into the conference championship. We placed third last season, so we have some high expectations for what we can accomplish this season," said Head Coach Luke Stoffel.
Sprints & Hurdles:
The first sprints event on the track for the Bearcats was the 60m dash, which featured Abigail Burgett (FR/Dawson Springs, KY), Alayna Petri (FR/Owensboro, KY), and Jordan White (SR/Louisville, KY) finishing in 8.67 seconds, 9.18 seconds, and 9.74 seconds, respectively.
White was the only Bearcat to compete in the 200m dash, placing 14th.
Distance:
The distance events started with the 4x800m relay team of Raegan Halley (SO/McLeansboro, IL), Marianne Glaziner (SO/Terre Haute, IN), Mckenzie Severs (SO/Hawesville, KY), and Abagale Huelsman (SO/Fort Branch, IN) placing fourth and picking up some points for Brescia.
The next event on the track was the mile, which featured Halley placing 14th with a time of 6:47.37.
In the 600m, Mya Hawkins (SO/Radcliff, KY) placed eighth with a time of 2:00.16. Hawkins scored one point for the Bearcats. Glaziner and Severs also competed in the race, placing 11th and 12th, respectively.
The final distance event on the track was the 3,000m run, which featured Huelsman placing fourth with a PR performance of 11:43.14.
Jumps:
The jumps events started with Marta Hughes (FR/Russellville, KY) winning the first flight of long jump and placing fifth overall with a jump of 4.65m. Abigail Burgett, Sheyenna Stytz (FR/Ledbetter, KY), and Alayna Petri all competed in long jump as well, placing 6-8th, respectively.
In high jump, Burgett placed fourth with a jump of 1.36m.
Throws:
Mikayla Chinn (SR/Newburgh, IN) won the shot put with a throw of 11.49m, nearly beating the next best athlete by a foot. Brittany Lear (SR/Madisonville, KY) also competed in shot put, throwing 7.38m and placing 15th.
The Bearcats will be back in action on February 20th at the River States Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship, hosted in Logan, Ohio.
