Women's Track & Field Finish 5th in RSC Championship; Lucas and Orange Award Winners
RIO GRANDE, Oh. – The Brescia University women’s track and field team placed 5th out of the 11 teams in the River States Conference Championship.
Caroline Lucas led the Bearcats to a 5th place finish along with claiming Newcomer of the Year and Women's Track Athlete of the Year. The dual-sport sophomore qualified for the 100m finals by placing first in the women's preliminaries with a time of 12.18. She then won the 100m finals with a time of 12.06 which placed her #49 in all the NAIA this season. Lucas qualified in the 200m as well where she then went on to win in the finals with a time of 25.41. Lucas also proved she could take her talents to the field events as well with a 3rd place finished in the long jump with a distance of 5.29m.
Alliyah Thomas continued her reign in the hurdles as she finished 2nd in the 100m hurdle preliminaries and won the finals with a time of 15.66. Thomas added a 2nd place finish in the 400m hurdles to her RSC Tournament run. She also finished 8th in the long jump with a distance of 4.89m.
Faith Mpassy added points to the team total as well with her 6th place 400m finish for her personal best and 10th in the long jump.
Jenna Krampe was the long distance stand out with a 1st and 2nd place finish in the 800m and 1500m races. Mallory Wilson crushed two personal bests with a 10th place finish in the 1500m and a 14th place finish in the 5000m.
Hannah Grosshans and Kaitlyn Orange took on the throwing events as Grosshans finished 6th in the discus and 13th in the hammer throw. Orange finished 15th in the javelin and 7th in the pole vault. Orange was also named the to the RSC Champions of Character team.
Lastly, the 4x400 team in Thomas, Lucas, Mpassy, and Krampe crossed the finish line in 2nd place and set a season high. Their time of 4:07.03 also slid them into the #56 spot in the NAIA this season.
