Toler Shines in Bearcats' First Home Meet
The Brescia women's track & field team competed in the first ever home meet on the Bearcats' new track facility on Saturday, January 30th, against Midway University and Kentucky Wesleyan College in a non-scored competition.
"We saw a lot of good competition today," said Head Coach Luke Stoffel. "We had three women win at least one event and a couple more who finished second or third in several events. I'm happy with where the team is at this point in the season," said Stoffel.
Sprints & Hurdles:
The sprints events for the day started with the 60m dash, an event that saw Mallory Toler (JR/Rockport, IN) pick up one of her two first place finishes of the meet, sprinting the distance in 8.70 seconds. Abigail Burgett (FR/Dawson Springs, KY) and Breanna Chester (JR/Henderson, KY) both completed the race in 8.96 seconds, finishing second and third, respectively. Alayna Petri (FR/Owensboro, KY) and Jordan White (SR/Louisville, KY) also competed in the event, finishing fifth and eighth, respectively.
The sprints continued later in the meet when Chester finished second in the 200m dash, with White finishing fifth.
In the sole sprints relay of the meet, the Brescia 4x400m team of Burgett, Raegan Halley (SO/McLeansboro, IL), Marianne Glaziner (SO/Terre Haute, IN), and Abagale Huelsman (SO/Fort Branch, IN) placed second, with a time of 5:27.42.
Distance:
The meet started out with the 4x800m relay team of Raegan Halley, Mckenzie Severs (SO/Hawesville, KY), Abagale Huelsman, and Marianne Glaziner finishing third for the Bearcats.
Next, Halley and Glaziner competed in the mile, placing seventh and eighth. The next distance event was the 600m, which saw Glaziner and Severs finish fourth and fifth with times of 2:19.38 and 2:29.05, respectively.
The distance events concluded with Huelsman running the 3,000m in 12:41.17, which was good for second place.
Jumps:
Mallory Toler led the way for the Bearcats in the long jump, picking up her first win of the day with a collegiate indoor PR of 4.70m. Abigail Burgett, Sheyenna Stytz (FR/Ledbetter, KY), and Alayna Petri also all competed in long jump, placing fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively.
Burgett won the first event of her young collegiate career in the high jump, jumping 1.27m and placing first.
Rachel Frey (JR/Vincennes, IN) also picked up a win for the Bearcats in pole vault, tying for first with Midway's Nevaeh Brown with a vault of 8-00.
In triple jump, Toler, Stytz, and Petri finished fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively.
Throws:
Brittany Lear (SR/Madisonville, KY) was the lone Bearcat in the women's throwing events at this meet, placing second in shot put with a distance of 7.36m.
The Bearcats will be back in action on February 5th at the OCU Trailblazer Invitational in Logan, Ohio.
