Lady Bearcats Win on Senior Day
The women's track and field team won the Blue & Gold Twilight on April 9th, which also served as Senior Day for the Bearcats.
"It's exciting to see the women pick up a team win as we get closer the the RSC Championship. We had some tough competition at the meet, so to win is a very good sign," said Head Coach Luke Stoffel.
Before the meet started, the team recognized its five graduating athletes: Mikayla Chinn (SR/Newburgh, IN), Brittany Lear (SR/Madisonville, KY), Raegan Halley (SO/McLeansboro, IL), Jordan White (SR/Louisville, KY), and Devin Roche.
"I'm so proud of the five athletes we have graduating and I'm grateful for everything that they have done to help re-build our program. I'm excited to see how they finish this season," said Stoffel.
Sprints & Hurdles:
Abigail Burgett (FR/Dawson Springs, KY) broke her own school record in the 100m dash, running a major PR of 12.66 seconds and placing forst in the event. Ashaunte Watts (FR/Radcliff, KY) also scored in the 100m, placing sixth. Alayna Petri (FR/Owensboro, KY), Mercedes Santos Tellez (SO/Louisville, KY), Rachel Frey (JR/Vincennes, IN), and Dashia Shanklin (JR/Bowling Green, KY) all competed in the event as well, with Santos Tellez running a new PR of 14.04 seconds and placing eighth.
The 4x100m relay team of Mallory Toler (JR/Rockport, IN), Breanna Chester (JR/Henderson, KY), Ashaunte Watts, and Abigail Burgett won the relay event, finishing in 52.49 seconds.
In the 100m hurdles, Jada Saunders (SO/Louisville, KY) placed first and ran a new school record of 16.35 seconds, breaking the previous school record by nearly two seconds. Elisabeth Joines (FR/Beech Creek, KY) also competed in the event, placing third with a time of 18.50 seconds.
Burgett and Watts placed first and second in the 200m dash, running 27.21 seconds and 27.68 seconds, respectively. Burgett's time broke her own previous school record in the 200m.
Watts placed second in the 400m dash, running the one-lap event in 1:07.07. Madelyn Lyon (SO/Owensboro, KY) and Jordan White also competed in the 400m, placing fifth and sixth.
Distance:
Raegan Halley kicked off the distance events for the Bearcats, running the 3,000m steeplechase in 16:04 and placing third.
In the 800m run, Abagale Huelsman (SO/Fort Branch, IN) led the Bearcats with a fourth place finish and a time of 2:38. Marianne Glaziner (SO/Terre Haute, IN), Mckenzie Severs (SO/Hawesville, KY), and Raegan Halley also competed in the event.
Huelsman also led Brescia in the 1500m run, placing sixth with a time of 5:32. Glaziner also ran the 1500, placing ninth.
In the 5000m, Huelsman ran 21:51 and placed second.
Jumps:
In high jump, Madelyn Lyon cleared 1.42m and placed fifth.
Rachel Frey was the only Bearcat who competed in pole vault, clearing 2.60m and placing third.
Burgett won long jump, jumping a best distance of 5.06m. Lyon, Mallory Toler, Alayna Petri, and Elisabeth Joines all competed in long jump as well.
Toler and Petri competed in triple jump, placing second and third, respectively.
Throws:
Mikayla Chinn won shot put with a best throw of 10.76m. Brittany Lear placed third for the Bearcats, throwing 7.20m.
Chinn also won discus, breaking her own school record with a best throw of 34.17m. Lear also competed in discus, placing third.
The Bearcats will be back in action on April 13th in a dual meet against Kentucky Wesleyan.
