Burgett Leads Bearcats at RSC Championship

The Brescia women's track & field team competed at the River States Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship meet on April 22nd-23rd, placing 5th out of 11.

"The women competed well at the championship meet. We had several All-Conference performances and have continued to build off of the success we had throughout this season," said Head Coach Luke Stoffel.

The championship was a two day meet with day one consisting of prelims in the sprints and hurdles events and some field/distance events.

DAY ONE:

Day one kicked off with pole vault, high jump, and the hammer throw. In pole vault, Rachel Frey (JR/Vincennes, IN) picked up the Bearcats' first All-Conference performance of the meet, placing third with a best jump of 2.60m.

Madelyn Lyon (SO/Owensboro, KY) placed fifth in high jump, clearing 1.40m.

Mikayla Chinn (SR/Newburgh, IN) competed in hammer, placing 12th with a best throw of 20.00m.

Running events kicked off with the 4x800m relay. The Brescia relay team of Abagale Huelsman (SO/Fort Branch, IN), Marianne Glaziner (SO/Terre Haute, IN), McKenzie Severs, and Raegan Halley (SO/McLeansboro, IL) placed seventh with a time of 11:39.

In the 100m hurdles prelims, Jada Saunders (SO/Louisville, KY) qualified for finals with a time of 16.44 seconds. Mallory Toler (JR/Rockport, IN) and Elisabeth Joines (FR/Beech Creek, KY) finished 11th and 12th at 18.12 seconds and 19.26 seconds, respectively.

The second section of field events started at 3:00 p.m. with javelin and long jump. Mikayla Chinn and Brittany Lear (SR/Madisonville, KY) finished 18th and 19th in javelin, throwing 14.73m and 12.22m, respectively.

In long jump, Mallory Toler and Abigail Burgett (FR/Dawson Springs, KY) both qualified for finals and placed seventh and eighth, respectively. Alayna Petri (FR/Owensboro, KY) and Madelyn Lyon both competed in long jump as well, placing 11th and 13th.

In the 400m dash prelims, Ashaunte Watts (FR/Radcliff, KY), Madelyn Lyon, and Jordan White (SR/Louisville, KY) placed 11th, 12th, and 17th.

In the 100m dash prelims, Abigail Burgett qualified for finals, running 13.14 seconds. Ashaunte Watts, Alayna Petri, and Dashia Shanklin (JR/Bowling Green, KY) also competed in the prelims, placing 12th, 14th and 17th.

Abigail Burgett qualified for finals in the 200m dash, running 28.11 seconds. Ashaunte Watts, Madelyn Lyon, and Elisabeth Joines competed in the 200m dash as well, placing 10th, 19th, and 22nd.

DAY TWO:

Day two of the RSC Championship kicked off the triple jump and discus. Mallory Toler and Sheyenna Stytz (FR/Ledbetter, KY) both qualified for finals in triple jump, placing fifth and eighth with a jump of 9.52m and 8.97m. Alayna Petri also competed in triple jump, placing 11th.

In discus, Mikayla Chinn advanced to finals and placed ninth with a best throw of 26.09m. Brittany Lear also competed in discus, placing 15th at 22.46m.

Running events kicked off with the 3,000m steeplechase, which featured Raegan Halley smashing her previous PR by 1:43. Halley placed fifth in the race at 14:44.49.

The 4x100m relay team of Mallory Toler, Ashaunte Watts, Alayna Petri, and Abigail Burgett placed fourth with a time of 52.59 seconds.

In the 1500m run, Abagale Huelsman placed fifth with a PR of 5:14.61. Raegan Halley also competed in the 1500m, placing 14th.

In the 100m hurdles final, Jada Saunders placed eighth with a time of 19.91 seconds.

At 11:30 a.m. the second section of field events kickd off with shot put. Mikayla Chinn placed second in shot put, earning All-Conference honors with a best throw of 11.43m. Brittany Lear also competed in shot put, throwing 7.66m.

Abigail Burgett picked up her second All-Conference performance of the meet, placing second in the 100m dash finals with a time of 13.15 seconds.

In the 800m run, Abagale Huelsman placed fifth with a time of 2:38.05. Marianne Glaziner also raced the 800m, running 2:52.65.

Jada Saunders and Elisabeth Joines ran the 400m hurdles, placing seventh and 11th, respectively.

Abigail Burgett picked up her third All-Conference performance of the meet in the 200m dash finals, placing third with a time of 27.40 seconds.

The 4x400m relay team of Abigail Burgett, Abagale Huelsman, Madelyn Lyon, and Ashaunte Watts placed third with a time of 4:25.90, earning All-Conference honors to conclude the RSC Championship.
