Women's Volleyball Drops Season Opener to Bethel

OWENSBORO, KY. – The Brescia University women's volleyball team begins their season with a 3-0 loss to Bethel. The Lady Bearcats start their record at 0-1 on the season.
To start set one, the visiting Wildcats would jump out to a quick 4-0 lead. A service error would momentarily break the momentum for Bethel as the Bearcats would cut the lead in half with a kill by Jasmin Jones. Bethel would regather and stretch the lead to nine as they continued on a 9-2 run. Brescia would struggle offensively as attacking errors got the better of them. The Wildcats would eventually take set one with a 25-12 score.
The Bearcats showed some fight in set two as they seemed to render their previous mistakes. Despite the Wildcats advancing to a 2-0 lead, the Bearcats would even the scores on a service error from the opposition and a Cheaney Archer ace. The Bethel hitters did not surrender as they continued to pound the ball into the floor to surge to a 12-4 lead. Opportunity struck for the Bearcats as Bethel was riddled with attacking errors of their own. Another kill by Jones would get the Bearcats within four of the lead. Brescia's attack did not waiver despite the lead as they went on a 5-2 run to start a comeback. With a score of 20-19, the Wildcats were able to stride for match point and finish set two with a win of 25-19.
With a two-set lead, the Wildcats would end the third set as they did the first with a 25-12 win as the Bearcats drop the match in three sets.
Cetera Warren led the team with seven kills as Jasmin Jones followed behind with four of her own.
The Lady Bearcats head up to Terre Haute, IN for the Showdown in the Woods tournament hosted by St. Mary of the Woods College. Brescia will start the tourney off against Boyce and Goshen at 1 & 4 pm CT Friday.
