Lady Bearcats Compete at Rio Grande Classic
The Brescia women's cross country team competed at the Rio Grande Classic in Rio Grande, Ohio on September 26th, placing two Bearcats in the top 25.
"I'm pleased with the effort we had from the women's team," said Head Coach Luke Stoffel. "Rio Grande's course is a challenging course and had long stretches directly in the sun. I focused more on the how the team adjusted throughout the race and responded to the course rather than the time."
Abagale Huelsman (SO, Fort Branch, Ind.) led the way for the team, crossing the finish line in 17th place and running a 22:52 5k on the tough, hilly course. Sophia Warthen (FR, Elizabethtown, Ky.) finished second for the Bearcats, completing the race in 23:13 and finishing just outside of the top 20 at 21st.
Sheyenna Stytz (FR, Ledbetter, Ky.) and Raegan Halley (SO, McLeansboro, Ill.) finished 43rd and 44th, rounding out the Bearcats performance at the meet.
"We have a few injuries that we are nursing as head deeper into the season, so we did not have our full team competing today. I think having next week off from competition will help get the team ready for Fast Cats," said Stoffel.
The Lady Bearcats will be back in action on October 9th at the Fast Cats Classic at home in Owensboro, Kentucky. Follow the men's and women's cross country teams on Facebook (Brescia XC & TF), Instagram (brescia_xc_and_tf), and Twitter (@BUxc_track) to keep up with the program.
