Alderton Leads Bearcats to Fourth Place Finish
The Brescia women's cross country team competed at the Huntington XC Invitational, placing fourth as a team.
Senior Breanna Alderton (JR/Owensboro, KY) picked up her second first place finish of the season, while five other student-athles ran a new season PR (personal record).
"Huntington's course was a challenging one," said Assistant Coach Kyle Robinson. "The course featured some hills and zig-zaggy trails, so to be able to come out of there with six season PR's and a first place finish is a great sign for the rest of the season."
The Bearcats were led by Breanna Alderton, who won the race with a new season PR of 18:47, defeating the second place finisher by three seconds.
The freshman duo of Carmela Shorkey (FR/Macomb, MI) and Katlyn Varnadore (FR/Brighton, TN) were the next two to cross the finish line, placing 23rd and 25th and both running season PR's of 21:52 and 22:01, respectively.
Hailey Vitolo (JR/Perry, OH) and Lexi Nicholas (SR/Hawesville, KY) rounded out the top five for the Bearcats, placing 28th and 41st and running season PR's of 22:19 and 23:49, respectively.
Marianne Glaziner (JR/Terre Haute, IN) also ran a season PR at the meet, placing 50th. Sheyenna Stytz (SO/Ledbetter, KY) finished moments after Glaziner, placing 52nd.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Friday, October 8th when we host the Brescia Invitational at Yellow Creek Park.
