OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University baseball team kicked off their series against Montreat College with a 10-8 comeback win. The Bearcats extended their record to 10-7 overall with two more games to play in the series.
The 12-13 Cavaliers of Montreat crossed the plate first in this non-conference matchup. A double to left center pushed the first run for the Cavs until a three-run homer plated the next three. In the bottom of the first, Miguel Marcos belted a home run over the left field fence to cut the Cavs' lead to three. Montreat continued to hammer the ball as they put up another four run inning. The Bearcats began to chip away as a Bryce Gamble sacrifice fly gave BU their third run in the sixth inning.
The Montreat bats went cold the second half of the game as Griffin Taylor smashed his sixth home run of the year to get the Bearcats within two of the lead. A walk on a wild pitch by Bryce Gamble forced the catcher to make a play at third where Artem Logvinov slid in safely. On the same play, the catcher threw the ball into the outfield to score Logvinov on the sequence. The Bearcats had a chance to take the lead for the first time in the bottom of the eighth as a bunt single by Gavin Huebner forced the pitcher into a bad throw to plate two runs. With the one-run lead, Griffin Taylor grabbed his fourth RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly to left field to give the Bearcats some insurance.
Huebner, Taylor, and Chase Christie each tallied a multi-hit game in the win.
Christian Pinson got the win in his two innings of work to extend his record to 3-1 on the year.
The series against Montreat will continue Friday, Mar. 14th, at Kamuf Park at 12pm.
