Baseball Splits with IU Kokomo on the Road
KOKOMO, In. – The Brescia University baseball team traveled to IU Kokomo for a three game conference series. The Bearcats split day one with the Cougars with an 8-5 win and a loss. BU’s record extends to 8-9 overall and 2-3 in River States Conference play.

Game 1: Bearcats 8 IU Kokomo 5
What was supposed to be a home series against the Cougars, the Bearcats hit the road to Kokomo due to the weather. The starting pitching staff for both teams kept the opposing offenses at bay until the Cougars struck first in the bottom of the third. A single through the left side and a throwing error led to two runs for IUK. Hayden Jones cut the lead in half with a single to center field, scoring Miguel Marcos from second. The Cougars scored another two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-1 lead over the Bearcats. Another Jones single to right field played two as he got BU within one of the lead. Chase Christie gave the Bearcats the lead on his ground ball through the right side as Jones and Grant Huebner scored. A sacrifice bunt by Max Johnson gave a two-run cushion for BU going into the bottom of the sixth. The Cougars earned another run on a single to centerfield with a few innings left to take the lead. A home run by Marcos in the seventh and a run in the ninth sealed the win on the road for BU, 8-5.
Brian Gonzalez earned the win on the bump as he goes five innings. Bryce Gross earns the save as he struck out six in his three innings of action.
Game 2: IU Kokomo 15 Bearcats 3
Errors plagued the Bearcats in the first inning of game two. The Cougars scored 13 of their 15 runs in the bottom of the opening frame. BU was able to push at least one run around the bases on a sacrifice fly by Koltyn Perez. Cason Troutman showed some stability on the bump for BU going four innings while only allowing three hits and two runs. The Bearcat bats struggled to wake up as they added only two more runs the rest of the game. The contest ended in seven innings with a final score of 15-3.
The Bearcats will play the series finale against the Cougars on Sunday, March 8th at 1pm in Kokomo, IN.
