Lady Bearcats Take Close Loss to Alice Lloyd
OWENSBORO, KY – The Brescia University women’s basketball team faced their fifth conference opponent of the season where they would see their ninth overall loss. The Lady Bearcats extended their record to 4-9 overall and 0-5 in conference following the 62-59 rout by the Eagles of Alice Lloyd.
To start this conference matchup, the Bearcats jumped out to a promising 16-7 lead over the Eagles with four minutes remaining in the first quarter. The Eagles would score their next six points as the Bearcats hit a scoring drought late in the first quarter. Lindsey Peyton would cap off a 19-point quarter for the Bearcats with a three-pointer in the final seconds.
Both teams stayed quiet during the second quarter as the Eagles slowly crept their way back into contention with the Bearcats. The game would see its first tie of the day on the trey-ball from Alice Lloyd. Knotted at 25, the Eagles took their first lead on an offensive rebound putback. The teams would head into the locker rooms as Alice Lloyd clings to their two-point lead over the Bearcats.
The teams would hit the floor again for the second half, each looking to take the win. Alice Lloyd would come out shooting the cover off the ball as they pushed out to a 13-6 run in under three minutes. The Bearcats struggled to find the net in the third as the Eagles took a commanding eight-point lead to end the quarter.
BU had to make a push in the fourth to stay in the game to get the win. Courtney Peyton and Elise Williams would get the Bearcats going with baskets on back-to-back possessions to cut the Eagle lead to four. The teams would trade baskets with under five minutes to go as a three-ball from Raquel Crooke-Losada would bring life back into the Bearcat offense. A costly turnover for the Eagles would give way for an Elise Williams layup to cut the lead to three. With 25 seconds left in regulation, an unfortunate missed layup would keep the Bearcats from tying the game up. Forced to foul to get possession, the Bearcats would send the Eagles to the free throw line. Alice Lloyd would sink one of the two free throws to force the Lady Bearcats into making a three to tie the game.
Ultimately, the Bearcats would turn the ball over on the final possession giving the Eagles the win, 62-59.
Lindsey Peyton led the Bearcats in scoring with 14 points and seven rebounds while four others score in double digits.
The Bearcats take the home floor again this coming Thursday against Shawnee State with a tipoff time of 5:30 pm.
