Women's Basketball Falls to Red Storm on the Road, 78-57
RIO GRANDE, Oh. – The Brescia University women’s basketball team fell to 0-8 in RSC play following the loss to Rio Grande Thursday, 78-57. The road trip will continue and end in Circleville, OH as BU takes on the Trailblazers of Ohio Christian this Saturday.
To tip-off the first quarter, the Red Storm would take an early 5-0 lead on their home court. Lindsey Peyton would start her scoring night with a ball behind the arc to give the Bearcats their first points. BU would take advantage of a Rio missed shot and turn it around for a made layup by Elise Williams to tie the score at five. These conference rivals would go shot for shot for the majority of the first quarter until the Red Storm would surge out on a 6-2 run in the final four minutes to take the lead, 17-11. The second quarter was all Red Storm as they kept the Bearcats to just 10 points opposed to their 21 heading into the locker room.
Lately, the Bearcats seem to prefer playing from behind as they have put up 96 second half points combined in the last three games. The 13-point quarter by the Bearcats would get started with a Lindsey Peyton layup. The pressure by the Red Storm defense would force the Bearcats into turnovers and fouls, giving free possessions to the Rio offense. The Red Storm continued to stretch the lead away from the Bearcats as they manned a 60-34 lead going into the fourth and final quarter.
Despite outscoring the Red Storm 23-18, the Rio Grande lead was too exponential as the Lady Bearcats drop the RSC matchup.
Lindsey Peyton led the Bearcats with 11 points and eight rebounds in the effort. Tia McGee followed closely behind with a quiet 10 points and three rebounds.
The Lady Bearcats will take on Ohio Christian this Saturday as they finish the road trip with a tip-off time of 12pm CT.
