Women's Basketball's Fourth Quarter Comeback Falls Short

In this back-and-forth shootout, the Bearcats would take a dominate 25-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. BU continued to push the lead further from the Cougars as the deficit reaches 13. Turnovers and missed shots would put the ball back in the hands of the Cougars where they capitalized their opportunities to go on a 10-0 run against the Bearcats in the second quarter. Raquel Crooke-Losada would break the scoreless streak with her first three of the day. Another turnover by the Bearcats would lead to a fast-break three for the Cougars as they take their first lead of the matchup with under a minute to go until half.
Coming out of the half, the Cougars would continue their momentum as they take a 10-point lead with three minutes left in the third. This game would come down to the fourth quarter as Paige Vanzant would make the first basket for the Bearcats. A charge foul by the Cougar offense would give the Bearcats possession where Courtney Peyton would make a shot under the basket to cut the deficit to eight. A late 12-4 run would give BU a chance to make a comeback. With 42 seconds left to play, Raquel Crooke-Losada would rip off a three pointer and sink it to make it a four-point game. A quick turnover and steal for the Bearcats would give them the ball to close the gap. Genesis Ghide-Bryan would get fouled and sent to the stripe where she sank just one of the two making it a three point game. A Bearcat foul would allow the Cougars to hit the stripe where they would also hit one of two free throws with 12 seconds left. The Cougars would walk away with the win after another set of game-sealing free throws as they take the contest, 82-76.
Courtney Peyton would lead the scorers with 20 points and eight rebounds on 64% shooting. Paige Vanzant followed with 17 points shooting 2-5 from beyond the arc and three assist. Raquel Crooke-Losada finished with 12 points shooting 4-9 from behind the arc.
The Bearcats will travel to Richmond, IN to take on IU-Southeast on Tuesday, Feb. 6 with a tip-off time of 4:30pm CT.
